Jeremiah 39 records the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon laid siege against the city in Zedekiah's ninth year as king. In his eleventh year (586 B.C.), the city wall was broken through and much of Jerusalem destroyed. (Cf. 2 Kings 25:1-21; Jer. 52:4-30)
